We all love a great long distance love story. This one is between a girl and a dog. Olivia Sievers is a German flight attendant for Lufthansa airlines. One of her frequent routes is from Germany to Bueno Aires, Argentina. Rubio is a stray dog from Argentina.
In October of 2015, Olivia arrived in Argentina and checked into the Puerto Madero Hotel in Buenos Aires. A stray dog was sitting at the entrance of the hotel. The next morning, Sievers decided to take a morning walk. She exited the hotel and noticed the stray was still sitting next to the door. After petting him for a few minutes, she took off on her walk.
The dog started to follow her, and eventually joined her on her walk. Olivia thought that would be the last time she saw the clever dog. Six months later, Sievers returned to Argentina, and was surprised to find the same stray dog sitting at the hotel entrance!
Olivia tried to change the course of her walks, so the dog would not follow her back to the hotel, but it was a futile effort. The dog was attached. Olivia became attached, too. She contacted an animal protection center to find him a permanent home. She took him to the vet to be immunized. She found him a foster home, but he soon ran away. Olivia then decided she was going to adopt him.
Olivia named the stray Rubio. She completed the necessary paperwork, and in twenty days, Rubio was ready to fly to his new home. Sievers’ boyfriend picked Rubio up from the Frankfurt airport, and they made their way to Rubio’s new home in rural Friesland, Germany.
Rubio is very happy in his new country, with his new family. The dog lives with Olivia, her boyfriend, and two German Shepherds.
