Police Officer Patrick Hennessey was on his way to work at 4 am in Orange County, Florida, when he saw two dogs on the road.
When he stopped, he observed they were two female pit bulls, and one of them appeared to be injured by looking at some blood on the pavement. The other dog would not leave her companion alone. Both seemed to be nervous upon seeing the police officer.
Hennessey called his colleagues who later arrived on the scene to help the helpless animals. Officers Reed and Boggs tried to calm down the dogs, and they were quite successful. Maybe they also realized that the men were there to assist them.
After moving the dogs to the safe side of the road, they saw that one had a wound on her legs. As first aid, the officers bandaged the wound with gauze and wrapped it with a bandana to stop the gash from bleeding. They also brought some food for the dogs. The poor animals looked grateful for what the officers were doing for them.
The cops believed the injured dog was hit by a car. She definitely needs to be treated, so they contacted Animal Services to help both dogs. While waiting for the animal rescuers, they tried to befriend the dogs by cuddling and comforting them.
It was certain that the dogs had owners because of their collars but, maybe, their owners abandoned them and left them on the road.
One passerby took pictures of what the police personnel were doing to the animals and posted them on Facebook. Many reacted positively to what the men in uniform had done. The photo showed how the two doggies leaned on the men for comfort.
The Animal Services staff then brought the dogs to the local animal shelter, cleaned them up, and fed them.
As the Facebook post went viral, dog lovers praised the officers and found them amazing for what they had done. They showed those police officers are not just for humans-in-need but also to other creatures which say a lot about their characters.
They later named the two pit bulls Liberty and Justice.
