As we all know, dog fighting is banned in most states in the USA. It’s considered one of the cruelest forms of animal abuse. It’s a crime punishable by law and subjected to incarceration. It’s a sick form of entertainment and is usually accompanied by other illegal activities.
Dogs involved in this kind of activities always end up with injuries and sometimes death. They are usually trained by isolating them, putting on heavy chains, and often with a bait dog. Bait dogs are often used to train the fight dogs. Most of their teeth are pulled out, and their canines filed down to prevent them from fighting back.
It was the same with a rescued Pitbull named Aniken. Ricke, the founder of Reggie’s Friends in Texas, saw a Facebook post about a malnourished dog. It had been posted by a concerned citizen asking for help to rescue the dog.
The dog was last seen in a gas station, but when he got there, Aniken was nowhere in sight. He asked for help to find him using his Facebook account. People responded and searched for the dog the next day. Still, no luck, a stray dog came out of nowhere signaling them to follow her and led them straight to Aniken.
Ricke recalled seeing Aniken in very bad shape. He is suffering from malnourishment, large thicks, and an infected wound. They immediately took him to BluePearl Emergency Pet Hospital for immediate care. It was then found out that Aniken was a bait dog. They also noted his wounds are infected as if stitched up by his previous owner.
Aniken spent several days in the intensive care unit and was given by the staff a stuffed elephant to comfort him. He seemed to find comfort from the stuffed elephant that also helped him to get better.
Aniken and his stuffed elephant moved in with his foster parents. They knew what Aniken went through and are willing to take things slowly for him to adjust.
